HIMSS18: What Happened in Vegas, Shouldn’t Stay in Vegas
Last week, thousands of professionals from around the world gathered in Las Vegas for the industry’s largest health IT conference: HIMSS. Normally, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but in regards to HIMSS, it definitely shouldn’t this year!
The HIMSS conference includes endless educational opportunities, collaborations, and a sneak peek at the latest developments & trends in healthcare information technology.
This was my 4th year attending HIMSS, and each year I leave with newfound energy and excitement about what’s happening in our space. Here are my observations and takeaways this year:
The Interoperability Showcase is where you want to be (and arguably my favorite part of HIMSS)! The 30,000-square-foot exhibition was packed this year when I visited: speakers, tours…the organization and excitement of it all was fantastic. Many of the participants have been working for months for their part in the Showcase. My biggest takeaway: interoperability and collaboration will save lives and improve patient care. #EmpowerHIT
This year, HIMSS18 showcased a new exhibit, Innovation Live. Once you entered the Innovation Live space, you felt the energy of small, innovative companies determined to disrupt and change our industry. All the hot topics in HIT were present: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biometrics, Blockchain, and of course, the Internet of Things (IoT). #Aim2Innovate
Women in HIT
As a woman in HIT, the emphasis on the role that women have in our space was encouraging. HIMSS believes that empowering women to advance in information and technology is critical. The conference brought together women advocates of change that have accomplished great things within the industry. #WomeninHIT
Chewbacca isn’t as tall as I thought he’d be 🙂
As I return to work this week, I’m energized about what’s happening, and looking forward to HIMSS19, which will take place in Orlando, February 11 – February 15, 2019. Hope to see you there! @HIMSS
